Week #8 – Tagging, folksonomies, delicious and LibraryThing

Today I have subscribed to del.icio.us., and I had fun with adding my own bookmarks. I think del.icio.us is a very handy tool for keeping up with the subjects of interest. I intend to us it a lot.
I explored Technorati and did a few searches. A general search for "bookmobile" found 288 results. An advanced search for the EXACT phrase "bookmobile" in all blogs displayed 292 results.
Search for "state library of nsw 2008" found 33 results.
I found the Library Thing to be an excellent web site listing over thirty million books.

Cookbooks in State Library

SMH article about State Library cookbooks collection

Pat looks great on the photo

"Turner says the cookbooks published during World War I and World War II helped households cope with rationed ingredients by suggesting choices. One substitute for meat, for example, was made using macaroni, tomatoes and onions. "They were just making the best of what they had available," she says. "

Exploring wikis

Here are comments found on internet on using wikis in daily life:

How to use wikis for business

http://www.sitecreations.com/articles/business-wikis-use.html

"Yesterday’s web was built on nouns… sites, pages, and places, but the next version is built on verbs – share, change, subscribe."

How to use a wiki for marketing

Link: http://blogbitesman.net/2007/03/01/how-to-use-a-wiki-for-marketing-15-ideas/

"The cool thing about using wikis for marketing is that they don’t require help from an IT person or web manager to maintain."

Using wikis to create online communities

"Wikis open up new possibilities for collaboration between you and your patrons. Blogger and WJ guest editor Meredith Farkas tells why wikis should matter to you and your library."

How to use wikis for your projects

http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/network/2006/07/07/what-is-a-wiki.html

"Somewhere, in a dimly lit classroom, a library bench, or in a home study, some lucky so-and-so is writing an essay from beginning to end with no notes. This splendid individual is able to craft entire sections without forgetting by the end what the section was intended to include at the beginning, and can weave a carefully paced argument with thoughts and references collected over a period of months, all perfectly recollected. Neither of your authors is this person. Instead, we need help, and that help comes in the shape of a wiki."

How to use wikis for better note-taking (Advice for students)

Link: http://www.lifehack.org/articles/technology/advice-for-students-use-a-wiki-for-better-note-taking.html

"Wikis have been especially popular with students, and a number of specialized wikis have been developed specifically with students’ needs in mind, including NoteMesh, stud.icio.us, and PBwiki. Wikis are a great way to keep, organize, and instantly access class notes and other school-related information."

Teamwork

How would you define 'team work'?
There are a range of definitions and characteristics of team work. We could say that it is the “work done by a group of people who work together to achieve a common task or goal.” see: http://www.unisanet.unisa.edu.au/Resources/workshop-teams/Working%20in%20teams/What%20is%20team%20work.htm

I think that the following picture perfectly represents the definition.
